Unwrapping the Joy of Effortless Holiday Fudge
Are you ready for a holiday dessert that will redefine “easy” in your kitchen? This isn’t just a simple fudge recipe; it’s the EASIEST peppermint fudge you’ll ever encounter, guaranteed. Forget complicated steps and lengthy cooking times – this delectable treat can be prepped, placed in the fridge, and on its way to firm, sliceable perfection in as little as 5 minutes. Imagine that: a luxurious, homemade holiday fudge ready to chill before you’ve even finished your cup of coffee!
For many, fudge is an iconic holiday staple, a sweet indulgence often shared with loved ones. I confess, I’ve always cherished making fudge, even in my early baking days when my recipes leaned heavily on refined sugars and dairy. My go-to recipe back then was rich with sweetened condensed milk and conventional chocolate chips, resulting in an undeniably creamy and delicious texture. However, it was also packed with an exorbitant amount of sugar, leaving me searching for a healthier alternative that didn’t compromise on taste or texture.

The Quest for a Healthier, Melt-in-Your-Mouth Fudge
For a long time, I harbored doubts about the possibility of crafting a healthier fudge – one that was paleo and vegan – that could truly rival the decadence of traditional versions. The idea of achieving that same smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture without dairy or refined sugar seemed like a culinary Everest. And certainly, I never imagined it could be so incredibly simple to achieve.
That’s why the excitement was palpable when, last year, I successfully developed a recipe for paleo and vegan chocolate fudge. It was everything I had envisioned and more: a luxuriously smooth and creamy confection, bursting with deep chocolate flavor, and possessing a texture that dissolved perfectly on the tongue. This discovery reignited my passion for homemade fudge, leading to the creation of several other delightful variations, including a fantastic easy chocolate peanut butter fudge. Each recipe proved that wholesome ingredients could deliver unparalleled taste and texture, challenging the notion that healthy treats must be less satisfying.

The Irresistible Allure of Chocolate and Peppermint for the Holidays
As the holiday season approached, a particular craving took hold: the refreshing zest of peppermint intertwined with rich, decadent chocolate. Naturally, my thoughts drifted to that creamy, unbelievably delicious fudge. After all, is there truly any flavor combination more iconic and perfectly suited for the holidays than chocolate peppermint fudge? I think not. The vibrant, cool mint cutting through the deep, comforting cocoa creates a festive symphony that instantly transports you to a cozy fireside or a bustling holiday market.
This desire sparked the creation of this very recipe, and I’m thrilled to report it came together seamlessly. In under five minutes, using just FIVE incredibly simple ingredients, I had a batch of fudge that not only satisfied my craving but exceeded all expectations. It’s a testament to how straightforward and rewarding wholesome baking can be, especially when it results in such a delightful and seasonal treat.

Crafting Your Five-Minute Vegan Peppermint Fudge: A Simple Guide
Creating this melt-in-your-mouth vegan peppermint fudge is surprisingly simple, requiring minimal effort and no cooking. Let’s walk through the key components and steps to ensure your fudge turns out perfectly every time.
The Foundation: Coconut Oil and Maple Syrup
The first step is to gently whisk together your coconut oil and maple syrup. The choice of coconut oil is crucial here. Please do not substitute it with other oils, as coconut oil is the magic ingredient that allows this peppermint fudge to firm up into a beautifully solid yet exquisitely melt-in-your-mouth texture. If you are sensitive to or simply dislike the natural coconut flavor, opt for refined coconut oil. Refined coconut oil undergoes a process that neutralizes its distinct coconut taste while retaining all its essential properties for baking and setting. For the maple syrup, which provides a wonderful natural sweetness, you have flexibility. Feel free to substitute it with honey (if not strictly vegan), agave nectar, or another liquid sweetener of your preference, though maple syrup offers a rich, complementary flavor profile.
The Creamy Secret: Cocoa Powder and Nut Butter
Next, you’ll incorporate the cocoa powder and your chosen nut butter. The nut butter is truly my secret weapon for achieving that unparalleled creamy, luscious fudge texture! I often use a blend of cashew butter and almond butter, as both offer a neutral flavor and exceptional creaminess. However, you can experiment with other nut butters like peanut butter for a slightly different flavor profile, or sunflower seed butter for a nut-free option. Ensure your nut butter is natural and creamy, without added sugars or oils, to maintain the integrity of the recipe.
The Festive Kick: Peppermint Extract
Of course, vegan peppermint fudge wouldn’t be complete without that signature cool, refreshing kick! For this, we use peppermint extract. I typically recommend starting with 1 teaspoon of extract, which provides a balanced and vibrant peppermint flavor. However, I know some individuals prefer a much stronger mint presence. If you’re opting for peppermint oil, which is significantly more concentrated, remember to use it sparingly – just a few drops will usually suffice. Always taste a tiny bit of your mixture (before setting!) to adjust the peppermint level to your liking.
Optional Embellishments: Toppings for Texture and Visual Appeal
To add a delightful textural contrast and a festive visual pop, consider a topping. I love to sprinkle crushed, naturally colored candy canes on top for that classic holiday look and a satisfying crunch. For those aiming for a completely clean and unrefined treat, cacao nibs are an excellent alternative, offering a deep chocolate flavor and a pleasing crispness without any added sugar. You could also experiment with a sprinkle of sea salt flakes to enhance the chocolate flavor, or a drizzle of melted vegan white chocolate for extra elegance.

Setting and Enjoying Your Peppermint Fudge
Once your ingredients are thoroughly whisked together into a smooth, enticing mixture, the hard part is over! It truly only takes a few minutes to combine everything and pour it into your prepared pan to set. Then, the waiting game begins. In my experience, this fudge typically takes about an hour to firm up beautifully in the refrigerator. If you’re eager to speed up the process, you can absolutely place it in the freezer for about 30 minutes until solid. But let’s be honest: the allure of this chocolatey concoction is so strong that I’ve heard stories (and may or may not have participated in them myself) of people enjoying my classic chocolate fudge straight from the bowl, spoon in hand, while it was still in its luscious, liquid state. And honestly, #nojudgement here – it’s delicious at every stage!
This Easy Vegan Chocolate Peppermint Fudge isn’t just a dessert; it’s the quintessential holiday treat we all yearn for. It’s profoundly rich and supremely chocolatey, boasting an incredibly fudgy texture that gracefully melts in your mouth, perfectly balanced by a bright and frosty peppermint flavor. pieces
Ingredients
- ½ cup (112g) refined coconut oil
- ¾ cup (72g) cocoa powder, preferably Dutch-processed
- ¾ cup (192g) creamy almond butter, or nut butter of choice
- ⅓ cup (104g) maple syrup, can also use honey or other liquid sweetener
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
- ⅛ teaspoon salt, optional
- 2 tablespoons crushed peppermint candies OR crushed candy canes OR cacao nibs, optional (for topping)
Instructions
-
Prepare your baking pan by lining a small one (e.g., 9×5” loaf pan for thicker fudge or an 8” square pan for thinner pieces) with foil or parchment paper. This will make it easy to remove the fudge once set.
-
Gently melt the coconut oil. You can do this in a small saucepan over medium-low heat or in the microwave for approximately 30-60 seconds, just until it’s liquid. Whisk in the maple syrup until well combined. Then, add the cocoa powder, nut butter, peppermint extract, and if desired, vanilla extract and salt. Continue whisking until the mixture is completely smooth and free of lumps.
-
Pour the smooth fudge mixture evenly into your prepared pan. If using, sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies, candy canes, or cacao nibs over the top.
-
Refrigerate the fudge until it is thoroughly chilled and firm, which usually takes about 2 hours. For a faster set, you can place it in the freezer for about 30-45 minutes.
-
Once firm, use a sharp knife to carefully cut the fudge into desired squares or rectangles. Store any leftover fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator to maintain its freshness and texture.
